What is Bowls?
Bowls, or lawn bowls, is a game of skill, strategy, and technique that has endured for centuries.
It is one of many lawn sports with a bowl/bolle/boule played on a green that may be natural turf or a woven carpet. Lawn bowls are large, hard resin balls with a bias to them, so they travel along a curved path, rather than going straight. The object of the game is to roll your bowls closer to a target than your opponents. The target is a small white ball called the jack and it is rolled the length of the green to start play. Then players from each team take turns rolling their bowls down the green toward the jack. The challenge is knowing how far to roll your bowl and how much it will turn in its' path to the jack. Bowls is played in over 50 countries worldwide and has been around for centuries. Bowls is enjoyed by all genders, ages, and abilities. |
